Looking for Karate School for yourself or your kids? We have some tips for you:
Don't sign contract...!
Because of the nature of the service, do you know that by law you are not obligated to sign any contract with any Karate school? Nor are they permitted to obtain your credit card number "to hold" your spot in the first try out or introductory class?
Don't give your Credit Card number to anyone...!
Do you know that there are some "Karate Academies" that will keep you charging the monthly fee because, "YOU HAVE A COMMITMENT FOR LIFE", even if you decided to do participate anymore in that program?? ...And if you don't come up with a VALID excuse (i.e: Doctor's note, proof that you moved), they will keep charging you who knows for how long??? You don't have to be attached to any service if you are not satisfied with it...!!
Find a good school
Finding a karate school is a simple matter; however, finding a good one is not quite as easy as it may seem. A brief glance through the yellow pages will provide a lengthy list of schools claiming to teach karate and many will list the names and ranks of their instructors, as well as their qualifications while others will simply have the name of their school and their phone number. This is where you need to do some research in order to find an authentic karate school and a competent instructor who will guide your kid in their first steps of this complete discipline.
What is an authentic karate school?
When you are interested in practicing real karate, the matter to determine is whether or not the school teaches authentic karate. A few simple questions should reveal if the lineage of the school and the instructor can be traced. Where did the instructor train, and who was his teacher? What organization are they affiliated with? Can the roots of the school or organization be linked to Japan or Okinawa,?
Categories of karate.
Traditional, semitraditional and new art or "MMA". If you truly wish to learn karate, then a traditional school is the preferred pathway. However, since the traditional schools normally set high standards for earning their belts and require their students actually become experts at karate in order to earn rank, they have, unfortunately, not grown as those who have lower standards and pass out belts in return for continued tuition payments.
Avoid easy Black Belt Programs
Be very careful with those "Martial Arts Academies" that offer "easy Black Belt Programs" or are having "Belt Tests" every 3 months without caring the level and/or rank difficulty.
Do you know that some "Martial Arts Academies" charge you a "grading fee" even for putting a "COLOR TAPE" in your kid's belt??? That is unacceptable!!
What they are doing is just making you pay a lot of money and teach you only a little, since the instructor has little knowledge himself and is playing with your mind's desire or you kid's illusion to be a black belt.
THAT'S NOT FAIR TO YOU as a new member in the art!
