Keiko Shin Karate Academy's performance was celebrated during AAU Athelete of The Year Award banquet on January 23rd, 2016.
Keiko Shin Team did extremely well last year and although nobody is counting the medals any more, nine athletes from our Academy were awarded the titles of AAU Athlete of The Year 2015. Sensei Ernesto Fuentes was recognized as Best Sensei and Keiko Shin Karate Academy gained another title of The Best Performing Karate School in Florida.
During the same weekend we also participated in AAU Season Opener - two days tournament on January 23-24 in Orlando, FL. It was challenging tournament for KSKA Team. It looks like since our tremendous victory at 2015 Nationals everyone is training very hard to beat us. While we certainly appreciate challenge in the form of honest competition - this was not the case on some of the matts during the Season Opener. Our parents and atheletes were outraged at the behaviour of some of the judges who - even though competitors from their own dojos were about to compete - refused to step off the judging chair until they were protested and even then - they chose to stay around the matt and intimidate other judges. Fortunately, those were isolated incidents and our Sensei did awesome work by reacting and keeping it fair as much as possible.
KSKA did something new this year, we enrolled more coaches than we usually do and it worked very well. Every competitor had able coach in their corner helping them addjust the tactics and win their event. We are extremely greatfull to all new coaches for their help and dedication.
We are getting ready for AAU District Championship East. Training, adjusting, fixing, and then training some more.
Team members, staff, and all our Parents are hoping for clean, honest, and tough competition.
Go Keiko Shin !!!
